STORY DESCRIPTION:

In Congo during the 1880s, Pietro di Brazza was the pacifist rival of the notorious Stanley. Brazza's humanity so endeared him to Africans that today Brazzaville remains the only capital in Africa still carrying a European name. Director Clemente Bicocchi traces Brazza's incredible original journey through the uncharted Congo and then shifts to the present unveiling in a David-and-Goliath thriller. When Brazza's common European and African descendants learn that a corrupt regime is constructing a mausoleum for their ancestor, they rebel against the Congo government in a dramatic human rights battle. And one woman stands up to the dictator. This gripping film--an innovative blend of animation, puppetry, archival and original footage--sheds a harsh light on Central Africa's colonial past and its troubled future in all of its fascinating complexities.
