Ainom, an ex-guerrilla fighter from Eritrea, has escaped to Italy and works at a ski lift in a small mountain town on the Italian-French border. In order to earn money to support her husband and son back in Africa, she is forced to accept the sexual advances of her employer Enrico, a violent unstable man. Meanwhile, Enrico’s brother, the town’s police marshal, has fallen in love with Ainom. But Ainom’s only thought remains to reunite with her family as she secretly plans to have them cross the Italian border.

Professional photographer Lorenzo Ceva Valla, already director of photography for the film Il Contrattempo [The Setback], was again director of photography for Ainom, for which he also shared the roles of film director and producer with Mario Garofalo. He has co-directed commercials, documentaries, and films with Mario Garofalo since 2009.Mario Garofalo
A university graduate with a degree in Philosophy, Mario Garofalo works as director and filmmaker, mostly for RaiSat. He directed Il Contrattempo [The Setback] and co-directed Ainom with Lorenzo Ceva Valla. He has also been involved in cinema education, as teacher at the Albert Steiner ITSOS Institute of Secondary Education in Multimedia Communication of Milan and in various other schools and associations. First as part of the founding team and now as coordinator, he is active member of the Children’s School of Cinema of Milan.
