There is a girl who wants to kill herself on her birthday. She happens to order her birthday cake at a shop where unique pâtissier who is always spinning a daydream at work. Two social unfits come across unintentionally, which cause miracle to save the hopeless girl.There is always a way to get out of the worst situation, which might be caused by someone you don’t even know. I believe in a miracle by chance. Originally, I shot this film for Sendai where the serious earthquake happened on March 11th, 2011. I donated 3minutes and 11second version to the film festival in Sendai, and this is the complete version of it. I wanted to express deepest wish for all of us in Japan can find a hope to smile again after the tragedy.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
Mari Okada was born in Osaka, Japan. She started making personal experimental films in university. She pursued her filmmaking career at California Institute of the Arts, and graduated with Master of fine Arts. Her Thesis film, The Correct Use of the Oranges, was screened in numerous film festivals in the world. She just finished making, Birthday 311, to contribute to the disaster happened in Japan on March 11th. Birthday is the complete version of Birthday 311.
