STORY DESCRIPTION:

This documentary describes one-year Pet Therapy activity, organized in Ostia (Rome) between 2004 and 2005, as part of an Agreement between XIII District of Rome and ANUCSS (National Association of the Use of Dogs for Social Purposes). Pet Therapy is the definition given to a number of programs in which pets are used as an alternative support to medical and psycho-physical rehabilitation techniques. The aim of the Project was to offer a free service that would enrich the therapeutic and educational offer in the area, involving families in a leisure- and nature-based therapeutic experience. 15 families and 17 children and young people participated in the project, working with 6 Golden and Labrador Retrievers. These are the stories of children affected by different psycho-physical problems and disorders who, by working with dogs, experienced positive and fulfilling moments, benefiting from this type of co-therapy. The entire process is described: from the early encounters full of fears and difficulties,to the latest experiences where joy and smiles prevailed. It shows how tasks and games with the dogs are gradually taught and how an emotionally important relationship is established with the animals.
