Two drug smugglers attempt to smuggle opium from the borders of Myanmar/Burma to India. Theyâ€™ve managed to acquire the opium but have lost their way once past the Indian border.In a rural part of the state of Nagaland(North-east India), the lost highway unfortunately leads them to a small police Checkpost. Unprepared and caught off guard, the two men are arrested.The arrest is only the beginning for both the smugglers and the policemen as what transpires later in the day is no mundanity.The two men soon learn that the policemen are as inadequate as they are. Trouble with the only vehicle available to the police, mean that they spend the rest of the day together in the Checkpost in the middle of nowhere.Through the unlikely events, police corruption and the lack of proper jurisdiction are exposed.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
Theja Rio is the writer/director of the short film â€˜CHECKPOSTâ€™. Born(1995), at the age of 23 he has three short films in the resume.His first short film was shot in Sicily, Italy(2015) where his script was chosen and he was invited. Under the mentorship of Hollywood elites such as Manuel Alberto Claro(DOP of Melancholia, Nymphomaniac), his first short film was completed and screened in a few festivals in Europe.In 2016, he made his second short film called â€˜Madam Khurannaâ€™s Basketâ€™, in which he was also the writer/director/editor. The short film successfully played several film festivals around India, and was a semi finalist at the Los Angeles Cinefest.In 2017, he worked as the assistant director in the Indo/American film called â€˜The Illegalâ€™. The film had a star cast that included Suraj Sharma and Adil Hussain(both from Life of Pi).And in 2017, Rio co-wrote Checkpost with his college friend Uday Kaunugo, and went on to direct it.
