â€œBOOKANIMAâ€, a compound word of â€˜Bookâ€™ and â€˜Animaâ€™, is the project to give book new cinematic life. Still images of book are transferred to moving images by animation and texts of book are transferred to cinematic subtitle. Master's voice audio mentions the spirit of sports and supplements explanatory texts of reference book.Ultimately, this work aims to create â€˜Watching Bookâ€™ in the third scope between Book and Cinema. Along the way it experiments Found Frame, Key Point, Locomotive Overlap, Random Crop & Zoom, Off-screen and most of all, new Locomotion based on Chronophotography paying homage for Edward Muybridge and Entienne Jules-Marey.The project consists of four chapters for Locomotion: 1. Martial Arts 2. Dance 3. Ball Games 4. Leports.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:
Born in Seoul, S.Korea, SHON KIM studied fine art at School of the Art Institute of Chicago, focusing on Painting & Drawing. SHON KIM received an MFA degree of Experimental Animation at CalArts. SHON KIM is now the Candidate for Ph.D of Animation Theory at Chung-Ang University and teaches Moving images art at University. SHON KIM works on Moving image & Still image with the theme for the organic relationship between both, and performing art based in LA.
