This film tells the stories of particular journeys. The characters in these stories all left their native countries, their families, thus choosing new paths. Their paths are forked, they stop suddenly, circle back around, retrace their steps. They left one coast, be it fleeing a nightmare or propelled by a dream. They left the coast of home, or the coast of childhood, as Rilke put it. They arrived at another coast: the coast where new horizons await discovery, in hope of a better life, freedom regained or simply in conquest of their lives. In the space between two coasts, nostalgia settles in. It is the nostalgia for what is lost, back there.Through these stories, the stories of Argentines who left their native land: a psychoanalyst, a writer, a political militant, an architect/painter, a professor of economics – I reconstitute my own itinerary as the child of Argentine emigrants. With this film, I construct a bridge between my “porteña” childhood and my life in Paris.
