‘Witnessing Gezi’ was created with the recordings of photojournalist Emin Özmen’s witnessing of the environmentalist protest that was launched to prevent trees from being chopped in Taksim Gezi Park which turned into a movement that influenced a great deal of the country. The documentary also aims to share the humanistic side of this civil resistance movement by recording it with photo- journalistic responsibility which aims to remain neutral to the events occurred.
Emin Özmen was born in Sivas, Turkey in 1985. He studied photography at the Fine Arts Faculty of the Marmara University in Istanbul. In 2008, he started his career in Sabah, a popular Turkish newspaper and later he received a degree in documentary photography at the University of Art and Design in Linz. Same year, he photographed the disaster of Tohoku Earthquake and economic protests in Greece. Following year, Emins works in Syria was distributed to the international media such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, El Pais, BBC by AFP. In 2012, Emin has been awarded by World Press Photo and Turkey Photojournalists Association.
