SYNOPSIS:

Horitoshi Sensei is one of the last accomplished masters of irezumi, the art of traditional Japanese tattoo. Pascal is a young French journalist specialized in tattoo who discovered Horitoshi’s designs in a magazine and felt in love with them. Although he does not have much money, Pascal decided to go to Tokyo to have all his back tattooed by Horitoshi. When the film starts, he is at his fourth trip, but his tattoo is far from being finished. Pascal is our guide in this travel to discover irezumi.
BIOGRAPHY:

Pamela Valente was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil`s biggest city. Just after finishing her studies in Journalism there, she left for Paris, France, where she studied History and lived for 11 years, before going to Tokyo in October 2003. She lived intensely in Tokyo for two years, and now she is back to Paris. Among her works: ‘Brazil in Paris’, 1999, documentary; ‘The crowd’, video-installation, 2005; ‘Love, Mixed Race Couples’, 2001, documentary; ‘Rock‘n Tokyo’, 2007, documentary. Pascal Bagot was born in 1977 in France. He is codirector of the documentary film ‘The Way of the Ink’, his first film. Freelance journalist, he is specialized in the cultural field. Having travelled a lot all around the world, especially in Japan, he made several reports on tattooing in Japan.
