The troubled history of the scrap merchants of Palermo, that have been recycling rubbish for generations. Since the 1950’s they have been working in the city landfill, where they rummage through the rubbish to find materials that could be resold. When they were denied access over there, they came to the city, with their ‘Ape’ vans, collecting card board, iron, clothes, utensils and assorted things. Through recycling, they
managed for years to provide for 400 families while offering a good ecological service. Today they aren’t allowed to continue their business…
Marco Battaglia, Gianluca Donati, Laura Schimmenti and Andrea Zulini come from different experiences
in the fields of direction and editing of audiovisual works. Since 2000 they have joined the forces and started to collaborate with the production company Playmaker to direct documentaries focused on social,
cultural and current affairs.
