The
Rome Independent Film Festival presents the RIFF 2009 Panels:
The New Independent European Cinematographic Production Profiles
This year Riff, at its 8th edition, is putting on the usual Round table to bring on the cinematographic cooperation issue all over Europe. According to the last edition, we want to move on comparing to 2008 edition, which mainly was about the new Italian legal system for the cinematographic financial projects, particularly dealing with the last years changes.
The meeting will be attended by the most important members of the main professional categories like ANICA, API, APE, AGPI. We will also have five important guests, selected among the young independent European producers of the European Film Promotion, according to “producers on the move”. The five producers, who have been noticed for the several innovations they've brought to the organizing and producing phases, will be in Italy for the first time to bring a significant contribute to our Panel's discussion. Our guests will be: Oana Giorgiu (Romania); Laura Hastings-Smith (United Kingdom); Reiner Selen (The Nederlands); Marko Skop (Slovakia) and Daniele Mazzocca (Italy). We will also cooperate with Filmitalia, Romania Film Promotion, British Council, Holland Film, Slovak Film Institute.
This section debate will deal with the real instruments for independent production and European coo- productions, through a careful look at five works by the foreign artists we just presented. We will also have the chance to analyze those cases in which the production result was negative. One of the main targets is the understanding of those coo-production schemes within the legal systems and of the several relieves, particularly referring to the cooperation between Italy and the rest of the European countries, also trying to understand the positive and negative sides, to reach, in the end, to the possible technical, financial and legal improvements that our country could embrace to guarantee the basic cultural-economic dual-core represented by the international coo-productions.
We hope this practical view of the seminar will be an attractive point; We will focus on all those instruments related to the improvement of the cooperation in the audio-visual field, giving the chance for a wide confront to all our new young independent producers.
Given the economic crisis in our country, the few public money invested in the cinematographic field, and the complex net of little cinematographic industries in Italy, with this seminar which is basically focused on the foreign realities, Riff doesn't want to pretend we're not living a hard moment, on the contrary we want to give a huge amount of faith to all our independent productions that bravely try to show themselves to a part of the world and an audience, like the European one, which are always ready to embrace and accept brand new tendencies and proposals.
