Closing night film
The Rome Independent Film Festival eighth edition, wanted to focus on Italian cinema in order to encourage as much as possible the talent of those filmmakers who have demonstrated originality through their works. In line with the intention to promote and support independent national cinema, the festival will showcase five full-length films realized by Italian directors.
The festival will close with the screening of “Valzer”, first feature film by the Italian director Salvatore Maira.
The peculiarity of the film lies in its single long take shot that includes also flashback moments, therefore, leaving undisrupted the continuous unfolding of the narrative. This choice it is not about the boasting of technical or stylistic virtuosity, but rather a response to the originality of the project. The “Valzer” in the title is that that a small band plays to accompany the musical flow of the story which is divided as in two different plans: the architectural and the narrative.
The purpose of the RIFF is to create a circuit showcasing independent cinema, channelling resources towards promotion and distribution of Italian first feature films. Quality cinema does exist among Italian film production, as the RIFF’s activity during its almost eight years of life can testify this, even though, such product remains barred form the movie house network, despite the fact that its features satisfy the appeal coming, particularly, from young generations. In fact, the strategy of distribution sustains market logic that not always involves the actual quality of the product that arrives on a cinema screen, or that in any case, because of lack of public funding, do not guarantee equal terms of departure.
For this reason, the RIFF commits to distribute the winning film in a number of movie houses of Rome and its District, as award in this eighth edition of the festival.
