The Rome Independent Film Festival presents the RIFF 2010 Panels:

The New Independent European Cinematographic Production Profiles

At its ninth edition, RIFF will organize a Forum on film production with the most important film production exponents to deal with the theme of European production cooperation. In perfect harmony with the previous edition, our aim is to move a step forward from the 2009 Panel in which the main subject was the new Italian legal system of film funding after changes applied in recent years. The Roundtable will see the participation of major field representatives such as ANICA, APE, AGPI, MiBAC, from major independent distributors to young European producers selected by European Film Promotion, under the initiative "Producers on the Move". Those producers, who, in recent years, have shown capability on using innovative solutions application within the production and distribution phases, will be also special guests in this Italian RIFF edition.
The discussion will stimulate a real reflection on the practical tools available to independent production and the development of co-productions within the EU, through discussion on successful cases presented by foreign guests, to then move on the opposite dynamics too. We will try to understand whether there is a single market for film or if the free trade barriers, denied by the European Union, de facto still survive in the movie niche market.
Therefore we hope the meeting, will be of great interest because of the practice cut that the seminar aims to take; in fact, we will focus on a privileged space for a cross comparison between producers and independent distributors.
Considering the fact that the economic crisis is giving hard time to our economy, the needed or necessary cuts on public investment for the film industry and the complex architecture of small businesses that constitute the Italian film industry itself, the RIFF seminar fact of looking abroad does not have to be judged as a mere attempt to a mental escape but as a good confidence boost for those independent productions who address, with courage and determination, to a sector and to a public still willing to accept innovations, such as the European one.
Lawyer Leonardo Paulillo LL.M - Scientific Coordinator Rome, 12 April 2010 Nuovo Cinema Aquila (from 10 am to 3 pm)
